Alexander Raaijmakers graduated in Applied Physics at the University of Groningen in 2004. He started working at the radiotherapy department of the UMC Utrecht in March 2004. In March 2008, he finished his PhD-thesis on the influence of the magnetic field on the dose distribution during MR-guided radiotherapy. This project was performed in the framework of the development of a hybrid MRI-linear accelerator system, which is one of the research focus points of this department. Starting from February 2008, he is working on the development of new RF transmit and receive coils for high-field MRI. In this way, our new ideas about multi-transmit technology will be implemented into functional equipment for the newly installated 7 Tesla MRI-scanner. For this project, he is partly stationed at Philips Medical Systems in Best. The project is funded by a Casimir grant of the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO).
